Nikka Wolfenbarger is a genderqueer multimedia artist based in Detroit, MI. Self-taught in fiber practices, they began creating hand-embroidered works in 2017, incorporating illustration and painting techniques. They explore a variety of media, including fiber, painting, illustration, and digital animation. Their creative practice explores themes of the queer body, dreams and fantasy, nightmares and horror, and the impossibility and necessity of being known.
Wolfenbarger’s work has been featured in galleries and institutions across the country, including Peter Valley School of Craft, the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Toledo Museum of Art, Yeiser Art Center, and the Ann Arbor Art Center.
